How to Make Your Website Show Up on Google

Building a website is one thing. Getting it to actually show up on Google is another. The good news is that the steps are not a secret. Here is what actually gets you found, in the order that matters.

1. Get indexed first

Google cannot rank a page it does not know about. Set up a free Google Search Console account, submit your sitemap, and use "Request Indexing" to tell Google to crawl your pages. Nothing else matters until this is done.

2. Get the basics right

• Speed. A fast site ranks better and keeps visitors. Hand-coded sites have a real edge here.
• Clear titles and descriptions. Each page needs a title and description that match what people search for.
• Mobile-friendly. Most searches happen on phones, and Google ranks with mobile in mind.
• Clean structure. Proper headings and structured data help Google, and AI assistants, understand your pages.

3. Publish real content

This is the biggest long-term lever. Answer the questions your customers actually type into Google. Helpful pages and articles are how a new site earns traffic, because they can rank for specific searches that big competitors ignore.

4. Build authority

Google trusts sites that other sites link to. Get listed in directories, link your site from your social profiles, and collect reviews on your Google Business Profile. Links and reviews are what move you up for competitive terms.

5. Be patient

Your brand name can rank within days of being indexed. Competitive terms take weeks to months of content and links. There is no instant "top of Google," but doing these steps consistently is exactly how you climb.
